We will have three categories racing this year: The Stock division, the Super Stock Division, and our new division– “Super Kids” (for special needs children). In the Stock category, car and driver can total up to 200 pounds. In the Super Stock category, car and driver can total up to 230 pounds.

Contact your sponsor, and call the Derby Hotline to indicate which division you are interested in entering and a race information package including the application form, will be sent to you! The Newport Daily News will print an insert in the paper, which will be our program book. There will be 18,000 copies distributed with The Newport Daily News all over Aquidneck Island and another 1,000 copies sent out to other parts of the state. Your latest picture will be in this insert. Please remember to provide a good, clear close-up picture, the names of your sponsors, your age and your school, so that we can get all this good stuff about you and your sponsors in the paper. The insert will be printed the week before the race. You should tell your sponsor, that we will have their name, etc. in this edition of 18,000 copies of the insert in The Newport Daily News.

There are some significant changes to the rules this year pertaining to construction, safety and markings. Come to one of the clinics and download the latest rules from www.aasbd.com to get the latest info and be sure your car is legal to race. Our application deadline this year is April 10, 2008. Call the Derby Hotline or attend a clinic to get an application. A clinic will be held in April 2009 at the Johnny Gomes’ home, with a Hands-On and Masters Clinic to be announced.

Trophies will be presented to the top three finishers in each division. All drivers will receive a medal and a racing t-shirt. And the winner of each division will go to Akron, Ohio - at the Newport Lions expense - to race in the national race in July 2008. So start working your car, contact your sponsor, and get set for another great day.

Please read the attached sheets to assure that you and your car are ready to race.
